MOLD

Mold in the Home has been a very Hot Button Item in the last few years.

Everyone has seen the stories about homes being destroyed or people becoming extremely sick from mold in homes.  In our opinion, most of those stories have been generated by people who have an axe to grind or a product to sell.

Is there Mold in your house?

Yes, every house has mold of some type in it.

Molds are one of the things that make the world go round!!

Just about every crawl space in the Richmond area has mold in it……

But is it a cause for concern and panic?

Probably not…...most industrial Hygenists...the people who should be doing the testing and consulting on mold issues…. generally agree that testing for mold is a waste of money. It generally costs several hundred dollars to test for mold and you need the training and background to properly evaluate the situation.

At this time, based on what we have read and been told It is our opinion that mold testing during the purchase of a home is not a wise use of your money unless you have a reason to suspect a mold problem.

Of course, if you have a reason to believe that there is in fact a mold problem in the house then by all means it should be tested. Preferably tested by an industrial hygenist….someone who has a background in the topic, not by a home inspector who got 6 to 8 hours of training in the subject and wants to sell you a few tests at a profit……
